提到 on the one hand ... on the other hand 這句型，還有不少趣談。電影 Fiddler on the Roof 中，父親發(fā)現(xiàn)女兒居然未經(jīng)媒妁之言就和一個年青小伙子私訂終身，大為生氣，但心情平靜后有一點后悔，心中暗想：

He loves her. Love, it's a new style. On the other hand, our old ways were once new, weren't they? On the other hand, they decided without parents, without a matchmaker! On the other hand, did Adam and Eve have a matchmaker? Well, yes, they did. And it seems these two have the same matchmaker!

這一段自白里，有一連串的 on the other hand，這當然不是正規(guī)的用法。電影以戲謔的方式——另一方面之后又再另一方面，把做父親的猶豫心情表達出來。

日常用語中，也有人故意說 on the one hand ... on the other hand ... on the third hand 等，人只有兩只手，不可能有 on the third hand，因此這也是開玩笑的用法。
